'As I've mentioned before I'm in the process of becoming a surrogate mother for some friends of mine. I've actually received some criticism from some of my pro-choice friends for agreeing to be a surrogate because I'm letting someone just use my body so they can have a kid. I don't really see it that way though, but I guess I could see how some people would think that. Surrogacy is a tricky topic I've discovered, everyone seems to have their own opinion.'
I just don't get this. You're not 'letting them use your body'...you're willingly helping friends of yours create a family. this IS a matter of choice, and anyone who considers themselves pro choice should, i would think, support surrogacy as long as it is not coerced, pressured or unwanted.
Personally, I think surrogacy is a great honour for women who want to do it, especially for friends. if your friends consider such a bond with you that they would ask you to carry their child, that's an incredible thing, and not to be undermined or diminished.
I know if I was unable to have a child, and I wanted one, and surrogacy was the best option for me, I would certainly ask a woman i was close to, as it just strengthens the bond with the friend and I would think the unborn child with the couple.
